Yell County Court Records

The Yell County Court is the courthouse in Dardanelle Arkansas. The two county seats of Yell County were built in 1914. It was firmly considered a historical place and that’s why It was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The courthouse is the second building in Danielle to serve Yell County.

Yell County was founded In 1840 by. a court established in Monrovia but later on located to Danville. In the 1875 Civil War, Dardanelle was made the second seat. In 1913 the building of Yell County Court was destroyed by a fire and Yell County began a plan to build a new building.

In 1913 Yell County appropriated funds of 25000$ for the building construction but a group of citizens protested against the construction of the building.

The protestors led by J.B Law who served in County court for 12 years as a clerk filed a petition in County court regarding these expenses all burden will fall to the people of district citizens and not to Yell County.

The judges denied the petition and an appeal was processed to the Supreme Court of Arkansas. The highest court gave the decision in favor of the County and a new building started constructed in 1914.

Location

The Yell County Court for the Dardanelle Judicial District County is located on the west end of Union Street in Dardenelle in Yell County. The river of Arkansas and the River Park is near this, and court is surrounded by buildings and historical places in yell County.

Jurisdiction

Yell County Court is a trial court have limited jurisdiction. It can hear certain types of civil and criminal cases. The court can also hear local ordinances and traffic violation cases.

The County Court can handle cases regarding money claims which is below 5000$. If the claims are much more then the court can refer the matter to a higher court. This court also handles the cases of separation divorce cases.

The Yell County can handle the violations of local ordinances and also handle the cases of traffic violations. Individuals with such offenses may face penalties from the court.

This court does not hear the jury trial cases if some petitioner asks for a jury trial the Yell County can transfer the case to the higher court. If the juvenile is found in contempt of court then this court has the power to send him for residential detention for 30 days.
